Lapeer County Clerk's Office Hours for Genealogy Research are as follows (no exceptions):
 
              Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Research is not allowed on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month due to the Concealed Weapons Board Meeting. Office Hours for inspection of records vary from county to county. We suggest that you call in advance for inspection hours. A limit on the number of researches may be limited.
 
Procedures Governing the Inspection of Vital Records Documents
1. Researchers will be required to provide identification when inspecting vital records, and
must register each time.
2. Researchers are prohibited from using INK PENS when viewing vital records.
3. Researchers will use the area designated by the County Clerk's Office. Our counter is
designated for walk-in customers, therefore, research should be done at the back tables.
4. Researchers requesting copies of death, marriage, or divorce: Fees for certified copies of
vital records is $10.00 for the first copy and $3.00 for each additional copy of the same
record requested at the same time. Plain copies of vital records are not issued. Fees vary
from county to county.
5. Researchers are not allowed to search birth records. Per MCL 333.2882(1)(b), ONLY birth
records that are 110 years or older can be viewed. Researchers must provide the staff
with the individual's name and approximate birth year. If a copy is requested, a blue form
must be completed and submitted along with the copy fee.
6. Records and indexes must be handled with care: They must not be leaned upon, marked,
altered, folded or otherwise handled in any way likely to cause damage to the record or index.
7. Copy machines, cameras, or tracing over vital records is prohibited.
8. Eating or drinking are prohibited when viewing vital records.
9. The County Clerk, or designated staff, will make determinations on any unusual requests
or circumstances.
