Emergency and Crisis Services (Outpatient Triage)
LCCMH employs several full time Triage therapists who are available for crisis phone calls or to meet with persons who walk-in with a crisis during regular business hours. Triage workers are Master Level trained clinicians with experience in assessing and treating emergency mental health issues. A telephone crisis line is available after business hours to provide 24 hour coverage for crisis intervention. Services Include: Emergency Services · Listening, supporting, and evaluating the person in crisis to calm them, and to help them find the least restrictive treatment options available. This could include a crisis bed, outpatient services and medication review or arranging for them to stay with friends or family. · Answering telephone calls from people seeking help including crisis calls from people who are expressing thoughts about suicide or homicide. · Meeting face to face with persons who walk into the agency seeking emergency treatment or support when they are in crisis. · Hospital Evaluations: Meeting face to face to evaluate any Lapeer County resident who has Medicaid or no insurance and is a in need of possible inpatient hospitalization. These evaluations may take place at Lapeer Regional Medical Center E.R. or I.C.U. or the County Jail.

Locating a hospital
that will accept the person in need of an inpatient stay.
Petitions· Assisting persons from the community in petitioning the court to issue a court order to grant an evaluation for inpatient hospitalization of someone who is so impaired by a mental illness that they are at risk of harming themselves or others. This could include an inability to attend to their basic needs. The triage worker assists people in understanding the process, determining whether a petition is appropriate and being sure that the petitioner understands his role and responsibilities. The triage worker also delivers the paperwork to the Sheriff’s Department. · In cases where it is determined that a person is in imminent danger of hurting themselves or others, contacting the police to have them taken into protective custody.
Medication· Assist clients with medication issues in emergency situations when the case holder is not available. Referrals· Advising and educating family, friends, or community members about the process for obtaining emergency or routine services at LCCMH. · Assisting people in making the call to Access for authorization to receive mental health and substance abuse treatment at LCCMH. · Scheduling appointments with a staff therapist for consumers who are determined to be eligible for CMH services. · Locating community resources and problem solving with the person who is not found to be eligible for CMH services or an inpatient stay. This could include making referrals for needs such as housing, food, transportation or free medical treatment, and referral to another counseling agency.
